She was born on May 30, 1928. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Burton of 61 years, her son, Garry Dodd, parents, Pete and Mae Lewis, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Karen D. Shelton (Mike), two grandchildren, Josh (Amber) Shelton, Jessica and Jordan Gault, great-grandchildren, Landon, Logan, Coby Shelton, and one on the way, Graham and Hudson Gault, all from Hixson; brother, Garnett and several nieces and nephews. All were the joy of her life. Doris enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never to miss any event they were involved in, spending many nights at gospel singings and sewing for anyone that needed anything from a dress made to a broken zipper. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson. Charles E. Schofield, 90, a renowned physician and resident of Keene for over 50 years, passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 30, 2017, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.Charles was born in Cranston, R.I., on Sept. 21, 1926, the son of William and Ada (Joy) Schofield. He grew up in Cranston and was a graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence, R.I.He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover in 1947. Following graduation he attended Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover for two years, transferring to New York University (NYU) where he finished his medical schooling. He interned at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y., and then from 1954 to 1957 Charles completed his residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass.Dr. Schofield served as a division medical officer on board a naval escort destroyer during the end of World War II, and later during the Korean War.He opened a private practice with Dr. James Ballou Sr. on Summer Street in Keene, practicing general medicine and surgery for 45 years with privileges at the former Elliot Community Hospital and later with the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. His practice later moved to Island Street under the name of Cheshire Medical Associates. Dr. Schofield also served as deputy medical examiner for many years in Cheshire County, and also as police commissioner.He was a member of the Board of College Surgeons and the American Medical Association. At the time of his passing, Charles was a longtime member of the Keene Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award.With a deep-seated, strong faith, Charles was an active member of the St. Bernard Church in Keene. He was a server during the daily masses, and also served as a Eucharistic minister during masses, as well as offering communion to patients at the hospital and to those who were unable to leave their homes to attend mass.
